Shabana FC players have downed tools, demanding that club management settle all outstanding salary arrears before they resume training ahead of the weekend’s FKF Premier League clash against APS Bomet in Kericho.

The players are seeking payment of their December salaries, which they say remain unpaid despite repeated assurances from the club.
They had initially given management until Monday 19 January, to resolve the issue, warning that they would skip training if no payment was made.
However, after holding a meeting on Monday morning, the squad decided to halt training and instructed the team manager to formally notify club leadership.
The stoppage comes at a crucial time, with Shabana six points behind league leaders Gor Mahia, and, still firmly in the title race in one of the most competitive FKF Premier League seasons in recent years.
A source within the club said the decision to halt training stemmed from unfulfilled promises. Tensions reportedly escalated in December when players received KSh 20,000 each, a partial payment of their November salaries, despite assurances that all dues would be settled on time.
“The club has been taking us in circles with empty promises. Our December salaries have not been paid despite repeated assurances, and we have decided to stay away until action is taken,” one player told Mozzart Sport.
Another player alleged that management had issued threats instead of addressing the issue: “They have been threatening players instead of handling the matter properly. They must pay us, or we will stay away for as long as it takes,” he said.
On Sunday, the club issued a statement providing a detailed breakdown of how the over KSh 3 million collected from their recent match against Gor Mahia was spent, aiming to counter claims that the funds had been mismanaged.
“In the interest of clarity and transparency, Shabana FC has consistently declared its revenues and expenditures for every match,” the statement read. “For the match in question, the club paid a cumulative winning and draw allowance of KSh 839,000, with an additional top-up of KSh 169,000, bringing the total to KSh 1.08 million.”
A club official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the club has been financially stretched but that the office has been working round the clock to resolve the matter. The official added that the club hopes to reach an agreement with the players before the end of Monday, allowing them to resume training on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, unofficial sources indicate that the club is considering disciplinary action against individuals believed to have orchestrated the go-slow, even as preparations for the APS Bomet fixture remain disrupted.
