As struggling as he is, Felix will soon become the fourth most expensive player in football history based on cumulative transfer fees!

Joao Felix has never been considered a top-notch player. After all, except for his early days in Benfica when he showed tremendous potential and hinted at fantastic things, his performances were mainly subpar.

However, just a brief look at his career and the giants he's played for can give you chills. Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, and AC Milan - that's 16 UEFA Champions League/European Cup trophies in total!

And when such titanic clubs sign players, they pay them vastly. The €127.2 million Atletico splurged in July 2019 to bring Felix from Benfica is still the fifth most expensive transfer in football history, right behind Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho's moves to Barcelona and Kylian Mbappe and Neymar's moves to Paris Saint-Germain.

Los Colchoneros weren't the only ones to break the bank for the Portuguese, as Chelsea paid €52 million for his transfer from Atletico to Stamford Bridge last August. Still, that wasn't one of the smartest Blues moves, as his poor displays forced them to loan him to Milan just five months later.

And when it seemed that the Premier League side would have to unwillingly keep the forward, as no one wanted him, Felix's national team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo and his Al-Nassr came to the rescue, offering €30 million plus €20 million add-ons to bring him to Saudi Arabia.

Now, this transfer wouldn't have been anything odd, given CR7's relationship with Felix and the Saudis' tendency to spend money like water. However, it is as odd as it gets.

Namely, once Al-Nassr pay the compensation and officially make Felix their player, the Portuguese will become the fourth most expensive player in football history based on cumulative transfer fees!

The only players that will stay ahead of Joao on this list are Neymar, Romelu Lukaku, and Cristiano, and Felix is just 25, so there's plenty of time for him to reach the throne!

Once his move to Al-Nassr is finalized, Felix will leap from #8 to #4 on this list (©Transfermarkt)Once his move to Al-Nassr is finalized, Felix will leap from #8 to #4 on this list (©Transfermarkt)

So, one day, in ten or fifteen years, some kid might come across this list and see a bit of a peculiar name at the top - some guy called Joao Felix - and then wonder how good this man actually was when some genuine football giants are behind him.

That's all you need to know about today's football.
