The Kenyan has been sidelined with an ankle injury since March this year

Kenyan international and Zesco United striker Vincent Oburu is looking forward to storming back to the pitch after overcoming a lengthy injury that has seen him sidelined for a while.

An ankle injury has seen the former Wazito FC forward missing in action for close to seven months, his last appearance being in the 2-0 win over Konkola Blades in March shortly after he had announced himself in the 2-1 win over Nkana in February, a match in which he was involved in both goals, scoring one and setting up the other.

Speaking on his lengthy absence, the winger said that although it has been a frustrating experience, such moments are inevitable sometimes in the sport.

He is, however, optimistic that he will make a full return to the team soon with the bigger chunk of the season yet to be played.

“It has been very frustrating to be out of the game for this long. But I must understand that there will be times like this. Nevertheless, I kept praying and am happy that am getting back in shape. I am very optimistic that by the time we play the upcoming matches, I will be ready,” he said as quoted on the club's portal.

After a slow start to the Zambian top-tier league in the current campaign, Zesco picked up their maiden win of the season in three matches as they beat Nkwazi 1-0 last weekend and Oburu believes it was a good turning point, setting his eyes on helping the team in the upcoming fixtures.

“It is great to see the team pick maximum points from the last game. This is good especially that I am now getting back to my feet. My major role now will be to contribute to the success of the team for the rest of the season," he added.

His tactician, Mumamba Numba, is excited at the prospect of welcoming back the left-footed attacker, remaining optimistic that he will be available for selection within two weeks.

“He has been training with us which is a sign that he is getting better by the day. I am hopeful that he will be match ready in the next two weeks,” Numba said.
