While their boss is recovering from pneumonia, Newcastle are smashing the EPL rivals. Four days ago, they crushed Man United (4-1), and last night they demolished Crystal Palace (5-0)
The English Premier League has a new team #3! Liverpool and Arsenal have been a leading duo for a long time, while Nottingham Forest have held the third position for months. Until last night! Newcastle demolished Crystal Palace 5-0, taking over the spot behind the Reds and Gunners six rounds before the end of the season.

The Eagles held out almost throughout the entire first half, but after the Magpies' blitzkrieg a little before the break, there was no going back.
Newcastle broke the deadlock in the 14th minute over Jacob Murphy, but Palace got a chance to return from the spot in the 36th minute. Yet, Nick Pope stopped Eberechi Eze's effort, and that's when everything started going south for Oliver Glasner's crew.

In ten final minutes of the first half - between the 38th and eighth minute of added time - Newcastle scored three goals (?!) over Marc Guehi (own goal), Harvey Barnes, and Fabian Schar, completely destroying the visitors' hopes.
2 - Marc Guéhi has scored an own goal in both games against Newcastle in the Premier League this season, just the second time a player has netted one home and away against an opponent in a single campaign (after Jamie Carragher v Tottenham in 1998-99). Oops. pic.twitter.com/CAw9pUAvOG

After the break, the pace was much slower, though Eddie Howe's men - led by assistant manager Jason Tindall while the gaffer is recovering from pneumonia - managed to net once more when Alexander Isak bagged his 21st goal in the Premier League this season.

Although the Magpies are currently third, the seventh-placed Aston Villa are only five points away, so the battle for the Champions League will be tough until the last moment of the season. Apart from Newcastle and the Villans, Nottingham Forest, Man City, and Chelsea are also in the mix for three spots that lead to the elite European competition next season.
