The attacker grabbed a double to hand his team a comeback win.
Kelvin Etemesi grabbed a second half double to hand City Stars a 2-1 comeback win over AFC Leopards in an FKF Premier League match staged at the Nyayo National Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Heading into the game Ingwe were keen on bouncing back from last weekend's Mozzart Bet Cup while City Stars were keen on stretching their unbeaten run to seven games.
Ingwe coach Patrick Aussems faulted his team for what he says were childish defensive errors.
"We had a good first half but we dropped in the second half. We conceded goals from childish mistakes and with 20 minutes left I decided to sit because I had a feeling that they would score. We now focus on the remaining three games," Aussems said.
City Stars boss Nicholas Muyoti on his end was full of praise for his players.
"I want to thank God and the players; they never gave up even after conceding . In the second half we made changes that bore fruits and I am happy for the outcome and the way the players committed themselves today," The former Kenyan international stated.
Nairobi City Stars started the game strongly and should have gone ahead inside the first five minutes if not for two fantastic saves from Levis Opiyo to deny Andrew Kisilu and Vincent Owino. They continued to raid with Kisilu, Kelvin Etemesi and Samuel Kapen causing Ingwe defenders problems.
Against the run of play, Leopards went ahead in the 17th minute through Victor Omune. Washington Munene played a long ball from deep into his own half, the striker controlled it and out-muscled Kennedy Onyango before firing past Steve Njunge.
City Stars nearly equalized in the 33rd minute through Etemesi but a touch from a Leopards defender took the ball off target for a corner. Moments later Cliff Nyakeya failed to hit the back of an empty net after winning the ball off a City Stars defender. Ingwe took a 1-0 to the break.
The start of the second a feisty affair with endless tackles in the middle of the park that largely interfered with the flow of the game, chances were equally few.
A moment of brilliance from Etemesi in the 65th minute got City Stars the equaliser. He did well to see off his marker before slotting past Opiyo. Five minutes later Dennis Oalo missed a chance to put City Stars ahead shooting over the bar from inside the penalty area.
Etemesi completed the turn round for the visitors with a another low shot into the bottom right corner a minute from time.
