Sunderland have come up with a bizarre idea ahead of the return leg against Frank Lampard's Coventry City

If you want to get yourself back in the Premier League after eight long years, you should do everything possible for that goal.

That's what the Sunderland board is completely aware of as they decided to do something quite awkward ahead of their EFL Championship playoffs semi-final fixture against Coventry City tonight at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats won the away leg 2-1 and are on the verge of reaching the final and a winner-takes-it-all clash against Sheffield United in the final.

The hosts opted for mind games to keep that advantage, as their ground staff moved the advertising boards to combat the Sky Blues' long throw-in tactics, which have been fruitful for the club throughout the season.

"Sunderland have moved their pitchside LED boards in by two metres in a bid to stop Coventry's long throws tonight," said Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie in a post on X.

"Defender Milan van Ewick launches his throws into the danger area, so ground staff spent yesterday applying some tactics of their own ahead of tonight's playoff second leg," he added.

They've really thought of everything. Now, let's see if Jobe Bellingham's side will make the most of it and get on the brink of their long-awaited Premier League return.
