The Law Enforcers will now need to win against red-hot Ethiopian Coffee on Monday to advance past the group stages

Reigning FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police stumbled to their first defeat of the ongoing 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup after going 2-1 down to Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars at KMC Stadium on Friday, 5 September.

Having announced their arrival to the competition with an emphatic 4-0 thrashing of Djibouti’s Garde Cotes on Tuesday, Ettiene Ndayiragije’s men were quickly brought back to earth, leaving them in need of a win in their final Group A game on Monday, 8 September.

Playing in front of a sizable Singida support, Kenya Police were made to pay for their attacking miscues early on when they went behind after only 12 minutes, thanks to a goal from their former player Elvis Rupia.

Rupia, who played for Kenya Police in the 2022-2023 season, was in the right place at the right time to guide in a low cross from Ande Koffi, a strike he opted not to celebrate.

Lacking the sharpness they showed against Group A’s punching bags, Police were reduced to little opportunities in the first half, and things went from bad to worse for them with less than 15 minutes to go, when Koffi took advantage of a slip from Brian Okoth to rifle in his team’s second.

Police thought they had a chance to get something out of the game when they halved the deficit three minutes later through skipper Charles Ouma, but his header was not enough to spark a full comeback, Miguel Gamondi’s side emerging victors for the first time in this year’s competition.

With defeat, Kenya Police now lie third in Group A with three points, one behind the pair of Ethiopian Coffee FC and Singida Black Stars, and with a game to play.

Ethiopian Coffee, who settled for a barren draw with Singida earlier this week, thrashed Garde Cortes 6-0 in Friday's other fixture, and will now battle out for a place in the knockouts with Police on Monday, 8 September.
