Sharks hosted Sofapaka FC at the Utalii Grounds in front of a sizeable crowd, while Nairobi United took on second-tier side Soy United at the Dandora Stadium.
Soy replaced Bidco United in the tournament after the defending champions opted to pull out.
At Utalii Grounds, Sharks dominated from start to finish, but their superiority did not count for much in the first half as Batoto ba Mungu defended resolutely to keep the scores level.
In the end, Sharks secured a 3-1 victory courtesy of four second-half goals.
Eight minutes after the restart, Sharks went ahead through Victor Ngume, who fired home after some brilliant work down the right. Their lead, however, lasted only two minutes before Sofapaka equalised from the spot after Hassan Wairimu was fouled inside the box.
Beckham Omondi stepped forward and coolly beat Wayne Orata from 12 yards.
Sharks continued to dictate proceedings, and in the 63rd minute, they earned a penalty after a foul on Razel Omondi, who had troubled Sofapaka’s defense throughout.
New signing MarkVivan Kesa made no mistake from the spot. Six minutes later, a slick team move saw Zablon Kutela slot home the third goal, sealing the victory.
Nairobi United 2-3 Soy United
At the Dandora Stadium, new signing Ambrose Sifuna stole the show with a hat trick as Soy United defeated Nairobi United 3-2 to collect their first three points of the tournament.
Frank Ouya and Isaac Omweri scored consolation goals for the hosts.
Sharks top the standings with three points, the same as second-placed Soy United. Nairobi United are third, while Batoto ba Mungu sit bottom of the table.
