Eight Harambee Stars players dropped by Ghost Mulee

Harambee Stars head coach Jacob Ghost Mulee has whittled down his squad by releasing eight players from the camp ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Uganda and Rwanda.

Mulee is trimming his initial 36-man provisional squad that saw local-based players report for camp on Tuesday 24 August, while their foreign-based counterparts are expected to start arriving from Monday 30 August. 

The eight players dropped from the squad include KCB’s centre back Nashon Alemi, his clubmate Baraka Badi, Wazito’s top scorer last season Kevin Kimani, Gor Mahia trio of Benson Omala, Samuel Onyango and Clifton Miheso.

The rest are AFC Leopards defender Clyde Senaji who is being pursued by league champions Tusker FC and the maligned Kariobangi Sharks goalkeeper Brandon Obiero.

Obeiro was the subject of criticism from a section of fans who questioned his inclusion to the squad after his senior at club level Brian Bwire was called up.

Senaji missed a number of games for AFC Leopards at the tail end of the season with match sharpness being one of the possible reasons for his drop with Gor Mahia forward Omala also in the same category.

With the expected arrival of Joseph Okumu from his Belgian club KAA Gent, Alembi has been deemed surplus to requirements while Badi was dropped as Daniel Sakari and Eric Marcelo Ouma were understandably preferred ahead of him. 

Kevin Kimani who had a decent season with Wazito and Clifton Miheso who provided an assist in the win over Togo in the African Cup of Nations qualifier have also faced the axe.
