Music superstar has been supporting English third-tier club Ipswich Town all his life and has now agreed to be their shirt sponsor

Everyone in the worlds seems to love Ed Sheeran. The goofy-looking Englishman has been dishing out hit after hit, establishing himself as one of the best-respected artists in this century. But despite his worldwide stardom, he is still in love with his boyhood club Ipswich Town, a side that's languishing in League One, the third tier of English football.

The musician, who still watches The Tractor Boys whenever he's got a chance, has agreed to sponsor the team's shirt in the 2021/22 season. The deal will give some much-needed financial support to the team, while the musician will get to fulfil a dream and see his name on the famous blue shirt.

Ed Sheeran can't wait to see his team play live at Portman Road. In the meantime, he'll be happy to know that he's helping the club that's special to the people in the region of Suffolk, in the far East of England.

"The Football Club is a big part of the local community and this is my way of showing my support. I have always enjoyed my trips to Portman Road and I'm looking forward to going back as soon as supporters are allowed into stadiums again."

The music icon, who ended his Divide tour in his hometown in front of 160,000 people over four nights in August 2019, has agreed to an initial one-year deal with Ipswich Town Football Club. The news may mark a significant point in the club's history, with new ambitious owners taking over recently.

"With the new owners from the US coming in, there are sure to be exciting times ahead for Ipswich fans, including me. Hopefully, we can stop being so far below the Premier League!"

Although the club has been far away from the big stage, it still holds an important place in the history of English football. Under the legendary Bobby Robson, Ipswich won the FA Cup in 1978 and the Europa League, then called the UEFA Cup, in 1981.

Who knows, maybe the support of the world-famous Tractor Boys fan could inspire the team to emulate some of the club's glorious times.
