Easy one for Dortmund, Lever make Real-like comeback

Borussia at last awaited one convincing triumph (4-0), while Bayer won 5-2, despite being 2-0 down after 21 minutes

Borussia Dortmund and their fans finally awaited one easy triumph and a game in which they did not have to tremble with fear, wondering whether the opponents would strike back. Freiburg's two red cards (although Junior Adamu was sent off only in added time) definitely helped Emre Can's boys to note an important 4-0 victory.

BVB's addition from Hoffenheim, Maximilian Beier, opened the scoring after seven minutes, netting his second goal with the new team. During the first period, Freiburg were an equal rival, occasionally threatening Gregor Kobel's goal. Yet, when Felix Nmecha doubled Dortmund's lead five minutes before the break, it was clear that the visitors would hardly earn anything at Signal Iduna Park.

Patrick Osterhage's 63rd-minute second yellow just confirmed it and gave wings to the home team, which managed to score two more goals, through Julian Brandt - who netted a free-kick screamer - and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens for the vital convincing triumph - 4-0.

What Real Madrid did to Dortmund a month ago, Bayer Leverkusen repeated today against Heidenheim! Xabi Alonso's men were 2-0 behind in front of their home crowd after only 21 minutes, thanks to Niklas Dorsch and Mathias Honsak! Still, Lever managed to wake up and level before the break over Exequiel Palacios and Patrik Schick.

The Czech was the game's central figure in the second 45 minutes. He completed a hat-trick, netting in the 52nd and 71st minute, and gave his team a comfortable lead. Granit Xhaka only confirmed Bayer's victory in the 82nd minute.

Leverkusen are now fourth in the Bundesliga, one spot and one point above Dortmund. Both teams will have obligations in the Champions League during the upcoming week as Bayer will host RB Salzburg on Tuesday, while the BVB will travel to Zagreb to face Dinamo on Wednesday.
