Dowman the record-breaker: Arsenal's 16-year-old wonderkid makes history

The Gunners' teenage star becomes the youngest Premier League scorer

Ever since he first pulled on an Arsenal shirt, Max Dowman has been busy rewriting the record books.

Now the 16-year-old has another milestone to add to the list: the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history.

Dowman sealed Arsenal's 2-0 win over Everton, finding the net at just 16 years and 73 days to crown another remarkable chapter in a career that is barely getting started.

For those who have followed his rapid rise through the academy, the moment felt inevitable. Dowman has already become the youngest player to start a match for Arsenal, the youngest to appear for the club in the UEFA Champions League, and the youngest Gunner to feature in the FA Cup.

The teenager has been training with the first team since he was 14, and his ability has drawn bold comparisons - even with Lionel Messi - from manager Mikel Arteta.

Arteta and the club have still tried to manage the hype carefully. But when the moment arrived against Everton, Dowman showed exactly why expectations are so high.

With Arsenal struggling to break through and their lead in the title race under threat from Manchester City, Arteta turned to the teenager. The impact was immediate.

Dowman's cross caused chaos in the Everton box, with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford misjudging the ball before Viktor Gyokeres tapped in the opener.

Then came the moment that made history.

With Everton pushing forward and Pickford up for a late corner, Dowman collected the ball, skipped past two defenders and calmly rolled it into the empty net, sparking wild celebrations at the Emirates Stadium.

"It was magical," Arteta said afterwards. "Not just the goal, he changed the game. Every time he touched the ball, something happened."

The Arsenal boss admitted he had a feeling the teenager might deliver.

"It's so natural for him. He doesn't feel pressure," Arteta added. "When you have that kind of talent, good things usually follow."

For Arsenal fans, the moment already feels like one they'll talk about for years.

As Arteta put it:

"One day, people will say - I was there at the Emirates when that 16-year-old scored that goal."
