Gor were directed to pay close to two million shillings by Sports Kenya on Thursday
Barely a day after Sports Kenya fined Gor Mahia Ksh.1,995,000 for the destruction of stadium property witnessed during their game against Murang’a Seal last weekend, the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee has added salt to injury after imposing a number of sanctions on the club.
Gor were directed to pay Sports Kenya for the damages caused at Kasarani Stadium by a section of fans who went on a destruction spree after the final whistle.
The club is also required to commit to curbing future instances of hooliganism to Sports Kenya who vowed to allow the club to use their facilities upon paying for the damages and proving their undertaking in fighting hooliganism.
The two teams labored for a barren draw, a result that didn’t sit well with Gor fans who attributed the dropped points to a number of calls made by centre referee Kevin Amol.
According to Sports Kenya, more than two hundred seats were broken with the match officials also suffering injuries.
The result denied Gor a chance to scale to the summit of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League table as victory would have seen them go a point clear at the top.
Even before the bad news from Sports Kenya could sink in, Gor find themselves in hot soup as the FKF Committee has ordered the club to play their next five home matches behind closed doors.
The record league winners will have to dig deeper into their pockets and pay a fine of half a million shillings as well as cater for the medical costs incurred by the injured officials.
Further, their players; Rooney Onyango, Rodgers Ouma, Benson Omala, and Joshua Onyango are facing disciplinary action for the role they played in the ugly confrontation.
It remains to be seen whether Gor will appeal the ruling by the committee and pay Sports Kenya on time so as to access their venues.
