Dortmund survive in Frankfurt after a six goal thriller

Reading Time: 2min | Sun. 29.10.23. | 19:57

Borussia ended the match 3-3 after a 2-0 down in the 25th minute

Borussia Dortmund achieved a fantastic result in Frankfurt, where they managed a 3-3 draw with Eintracht. This is their third draw of the season, and they remain very much in contention for the Bundesliga title since they are undefeated so far, but even though a victory was anticipated today, they are lucky it was only 3-3. After only 24 minutes of the match, it was already 2-0 for the home team, and four minutes later, it should have been a penalty and 3-0, but after a long VAR check, the referee decided that a foul of the reserve keeper was not worth a penalty. This decision will surely be up for the debate since it was clearly seen that Alexander Meyer missed the ball and took a shot at a Frankfurt player, yet the referee didn’t give the penalty. Instead of 3-3, it was 2-2 in the 54th minute, before both teams scored one goal. Each end finished the game with six goals.

After a great display and deserved victory in Newcastle in the Champions League, the Millionaires started strong in rainy Frankfurt but right-back Wolf handballed in the penalty area, and after only eight minutes, Dortmund was down 1-0. From that moment, the home team took the initiative and started to attack the visitors, which resulted in a few good chances and another goal, the second for Egyptian Omar Marmoush. Wolf was also unfortunate to hurt his teammate, goalkeeper Kobel, who had to leave just minutes before that ungiven penalty mentioned above. But former Bayern midfielder Sabitzer scored from distance to give the visitors hope in the second half.

Coach Edin Terzic brought in Moukoko and Adeyemi at the break, and soon, the first one equalized for Dortmund, who had the momentum and dominance, but one counterattack brought Eintracht back to the scoring board. Borussia’s third substitute Julian Brandt, equalized 10 minutes from time and the home team survived the visitor's attacks in injury time.
