Don't you ever tell Big Sam his teams only know to play long balls

A former WBA coach is furious for comments regarding his tactics, and he doesn't hesitate to say what botters him

In a world dominated by political correctness, it's absolutely insightful to hear people's honest opinion on some matter. Even if it's, say, a bit rough around the edges. Because we're tired of those 'nice' guys telling us a lot and literally saying nothing at all underneath all that sweetness.

That's why we like Sam Allardyce. Despite the fact, he'll never be as close as Mourinho, Ferguson or Guardiola - in terms of footballing achievements. But he's a proper English tactician, a true representative of that almost extinct species, with him, Sean Dyche, Steve Bruce and a few others carrying a torch in the two top divisions of the English football hierarchy.

Unfortunately for Big Sam, his WBA got relegated to the EFL Championship, which meant the end of the road for the experienced coach. Once he heard that West Ham player Michail Antonio criticized his tactics, calling it 'direct style of football', Allardyce hit out.

"He (Antonio) has just insulted my team and me," Allardyce said.

"I know he's a nice lad, but it's disgusting what he said. I think he should go back and watch the game and see how we really played. Our front two are 5ft 10 and 5ft 9, so I don't know what big men he saw running in the channel.

"I haven't been more than that for the last six to seven years because it's all you lot talk about. Just like Michail Antonio said, 'it's Sam, we're the long ball. It's Sam, the way we play.'

"It is a load of c***, and it always has been a load of c*** because I've never played the same at any club I've been at, and if you thought that was long ball today, then somebody is deluded, "concluded Big Sam.
