115 minutes weren’t enough for Diego Simeone’s men to secure a victory against Alaves
Another disappointment in a row for Atletico Madrid. The team from Spain’s capital remains winless, and this time they had to settle for a draw with Alaves. The only moments of excitement came from the two early goals, as the rest of the match passed in near-monotony.
Alaves and Atletico Madrid went into the break level in a tense encounter that saw both teams strike early.
Atletico took the lead in the 7th minute when Giuliano Simeone reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the box, slotting the rebound neatly into the bottom-right corner to make it 0-1.

The advantage, however, did not last long. In the 14th minute, after Alexander Sorloth was penalized for a foul inside the area, Alaves were awarded a penalty. The decision sparked heated protests from Atletico players, but the referee stood firm. Carlos Vicente stepped up confidently and sent a precise shot into the right side of the net, leveling the score at 1-1.

Atletico pushed forward again in the 20th minute, as David Hancko latched onto a well-timed pass and fired just wide of the left post.
After the break, Alaves created a good chance in the 49th minute when Toni Martinez picked up a pass on the edge of the area, but his poor finish saw the ball fly harmlessly wide to the right.
Atleti can’t even control the midfield against Alaves, unacceptably poor given how much they’ve invested.

In the 76th minute, Alexander Sorloth rose high to meet a cross and sent a strong header under the bar, but Antonio Sivera produced a brilliant save to keep the score level. Few moments later, Antonio Blanco unleashed a powerful strike from the edge of the box, aiming for the top corner, but Jan Oblak reacted superbly to make a crucial save and keep Atletico in the game.
Atletico pressure became bigger, so we have witnessed one more chance. Julian Alvarez weaved his way into the box with a zig-zagging run and fired a shot toward the bottom left corner, but the goalkeeper pulled off an excellent save to deny him.
In the 97th minute, Marcos Llorente controlled the ball beautifully inside the box and fired toward the bottom-right corner, but the goalkeeper made a brilliant dive to keep the shot out.
