Corriere della Sera reported that the violent incident took place while Baggio and his family were watching the match.
The local media reported that Baggio was taken to an emergency room and was treated with stitches to his forehead as one of the burglars - whom Baggio tried to stop - hit him on the forehead with a gun.
After that, the former football star and his family were locked in a room while the culprits tore the house apart, searching for valuables.
When the footballer felt it was safe to do so, he broke down the door of the room they were locked in and called the police.
Baggio remains the only Italian to score at three World Cups and remains their joint top goal scorer in the competition.
