Harvey Elliot gifted his match-worn shirt and boot to a Liverpool supporter who ended up in the same room as Liverpool's talented midfielder

You have to keep your head and heart even when times are hard. You have to be kind to people when fate hasn't been kind to you. That's how you reach greatness. Although Harvey Elliott still has a long way to go before he can be called a football great, his heart certainly is in the right place as he found a way to make a young supporter happy – even though he's got problems of his own.

The 18-year-old suffered a dislocated ankle during his side's 3-0 win at Leeds United on Sunday. He suffered the painful injury after a strong tackle from Leeds defender Pascal Struijk.

England youth international Elliott meanwhile was admitted to a hospital in Leeds, where he made a remarkable gesture. A lad who was also admitted to a hospital for a broken arm was put in the same room as Liverpool's midfielder. The England Under-21 international gifted his shirt and one of his boots to the young Liverpool fan - and made his day!

It's a nice way to repay the public for many messages of support in the wake of him being stretched off the Elland Road pitch by the medical staff. Elliott said that he had been overwhelmed by the "love and support" he has received.

"I'm of course absolutely devastated with what happened yesterday at Leeds, but have been totally overwhelmed by the love and support shown to me by the entire football world following the injury. Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out or sent messages to me and my family, it means so much to us. Also a massive thanks to everyone inside Elland Road for the reception you gave me immediately after it happened."

Elliott had emerged as a surprise first-choice for Liverpool in the early weeks of this season after spending the last season on loan at second-tier Blackburn Rovers. He made his full Premier League debut in last month's home win against Burnley and was playing very well for his team at Leeds.

Liverpool's doctor Jim Moxon and head physio Chris Morgan helped Elliott following the suspected dislocation, and, according to some optimistic predictions, the youngster could be back playing in around six months. However, we won't know anything for sure before Elliott undergoes surgery later this week. Only then his club will reveal a clearer picture as to how long the teenager's recovery would last.

In the meantime, it's good to know that he is in high spirits. Get well soon, Harvey!
