Canadian full-back was diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee

Bayern Munich are facing a horrific setback as their exquisite left-back Alphonso Davies suffered a season-ending injury. According to the Bavarian club, the Canadian international will be sidelined for at least a few months due to a severe knee injury while on international duty with his national team.

Although Davies, 24, initially thought that injury was not that serious, scans have revealed that he tore cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee and will undergo surgery today.

Davies picked up the injury early on in Canada's 2-1 win over the USA in California.

The Canada international is not the only key Bayern player who has returned from international duty injured. France defender, Dayot Upamecano, was diagnosed with loose bodies in his left knee, which means he will not be available for several weeks.

"Unfortunately, there's always a risk of players coming back injured during the international break and this time we've been hit particularly hard. The absence of Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano is a blow for FC Bayern," said Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl.

"Phonzy will get all the support he needs on his way back. We will also be keeping a close eye on Upa in the coming weeks and expect him to be back soon. Our squad is strong and will make up for these losses. We will now work even closer together. The quality is there to continue to pursue our big goals," concluded Eberl.
