The Nairobi-based official continues his steady rise, adding another milestone to his growing career.
In December, he was part of the officiating team during the CECAFA qualifiers in Uganda, further underlining his potential among the region’s emerging referees.
While Ochieng celebrates personal progress, Kenya’s outing at the CECAFA qualifiers painted a different picture.
Both the U15 boys’ and girls’ teams were eliminated at the group stage after a troubled campaign.
The teams endured poor preparations, failing to train together and arriving in Uganda just hours before their opening matches, a situation that ultimately reflected in their performance.
CAF has now confirmed a diverse list of match officials for the fourth edition of the championship, a tournament that has rapidly grown into a key development platform since its launch in 2022.
The competition not only showcases young playing talent but also provides a pathway for nurturing the continent’s next generation of referees.
This year’s officiating panel features both male and female referees drawn from across Africa, with the youngest just 17 years old. All selected officials are products of the CAF Young Referees Programme, an initiative focused on identifying and developing officiating talent at the grassroots level.
The programme has been a central pillar of the competition, running through the zonal qualifiers and continuing into the continental finals.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship remains a flagship initiative of CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, aimed at strengthening youth football structures and building a globally competitive and self-sustaining African game.
