Ouma anchored the City Stars midfield for the better part of last season, making him one of the key players at the club
Nairobi City Stars defensive midfielder Clifford Ouma is working his socks off in a bid to regain his place in the starting lineup.
Ouma anchored the City Stars midfield for the better part of last season, making him one of the key players at the club.
However, he finds himself struggling for minutes in the current campaign, as he has made a single appearance this season, coming off the bench during their 1-1 draw against Bidco United.
Coach Nicholas Muyoti has been preferring Brian Mzee to insulate the defense at the expense of Ouma in the six rounds played thus far in the season.
Mzee joined City Stars from National Super League side Kibera Black Stars and has had an instant impact at Simba Wa Nairobi and in the league, despite being his first season in the top league.
“I am not under pressure, nor am I frustrated by a lack of playing time. I am training hard as usual and offering support to those selected for duty. One thing I am sure of is that the moment I get a chance, I will use it well,” he said.
Ouma, who joined the Kawangware-based club last year from Migori Youth, was at some point linked to KCB in the off-season transfer window.
The move, however, didn’t materialize following the change of management at KCB, where Zedekiah Otieno was replaced by Bernard Mwalala.
Further, Ouma revealed that Muyoti convinced him to turn down the offer from KCB for another season with the City Stars.
“I was to join KCB before the current season kicked off, but the deal fell through due to some factors. I have already put that behind me and turned my focus to giving one hundred percent for City Stars,” he added.
