The former Western Stima man sat out of action for over half a year owing to an ACL injury.

Gor Mahia’s robust left back Geoffrey Ochieng has expressed his delight after successfully managing to come off an over six month injury layoff that the defender says was a very challenging time in his career.

Back in August 2021, the defender tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in a league match and had to sit out of action for the rest of the year after undergoing surgery.

This year however, the former Western Stima man successfully completed his rehabilitation and got back to the playing field just as the 2021/2022 Football Kenya Federation Premier League entered its second leg.

On Madaraka Day, he was named in the Gor Mahia starting lineup that completed a famous comeback over rivals AFC Leopards to clinch the Madaraka Day Cup, a crowning moment that the defender was delighted to be a part of considering the lengthy period he had to spend on the sidelines.

“Injury is not an easy thing at all. First, it came when I was at the peak of my game at that time and all of a sudden I could not play anymore. It was a very difficult and challenging time in my life after the surgery but I managed to do it thanks to the support from the club and players. Managing to overcome that period and getting back on my feet really means a lot to me,” the player told Mozzart Sport.

On the Madaraka Day victory, the player went ahead to praise his side for capiitaizing on Ingwe’s mistake and coming out on top in the day and keeping the bragging rights.

“The win was really fulfilling for me. We had a really slow start to the game in the first half but Ingwe’s mistakes allowed us to get back in the game. After the equalizer we heaped the pressure and despite not managing to score, we got the job done in the penalty shootouts,” the defender remarked.
