The Argentinian will be making 10 million per sesason
The Argentine ‘embassy’ in the U.S. keeps expanding from one transfer window to the next. Rodrigo De Paul, Argentine midfielder and World Cup champion from Qatar, is leaving the European stage and moving to Miami. What seemed like tabloid gossip just a month ago is now official: De Paul becomes the newest Inter Miami player, joining not only Lionel Messi but also a true Argentine-Catalan colony in David Beckham’s MLS revolution. The Argentine has signed a four-year contract, and Atletico Madrid will receive 15 million euros as a transfer fee, closing a chapter that began in 2021. De Paul played 187 matches for "Los Colchoneros," scoring 14 goals and providing 26 assists. Still, in recent months, it had become clear that a parting of ways was inevitable — and now it's happened.
The decision to move to Inter Miami wasn’t made on impulse. At his new club, De Paul will play alongside Messi, Busquets, Alba, as well as Luis Suarez, Redondo, Allende, goalkeeper Ustari, and coach Mascherano. Miami is becoming not just a football attraction but a de facto embassy of Argentine football in North America. One more motivation? Next year is a World Cup year, with the tournament being held in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. With that in mind, De Paul believes preparing in MLS is the ideal way to approach Qatar 2.0 — with the goal of defending the crown with La Albiceleste.
Financially, everything fits perfectly. De Paul will earn 10 million per season in Miami, surpassing his previous salary of 7.5 million in Spain. In addition, the arrival of American midfielder Johnny Cardoso to Atletico was a clear signal: it was time to say goodbye. Atletico thanked him “for everything,” but De Paul is looking toward new horizons — this time sunlit, joyful, with a Latin rhythm and the scent of the ocean. Miami now looks more than ever like an Argentina team with a touch of Barcelona. But with De Paul’s arrival, that team gains heart, passion, and connective tissue. And maybe, finally, the state championship trophy — the club’s main goal.
