"I didn't have that feeling at Juve," said the Dutch defender

Three years ago, he arrived in Turin as one of the most talented defenders in the world, after leading Ajax to the semifinals of the aforementioned competition as the youngest captain in the history of the knockout phase of the Champions League. However, like many young players in previous years, Matthijs de Ligt did not settle well at Juventus, so he decided to leave the Old Lady this summer.

Despite the fact that he did not manage to repeat his performances from Ajax in the Bianconeri shirt, Bayern brought him somewhat unexpectedly this summer, spending 67 million euros for him, which was the second most expensive purchase in the history of the Bavarian club. Two full months have passed since that deal, so the international break came in handy for De Ligt to summarize his impressions from the period spent in Munich so far.

In an interview with the Dutch NOS.nl, De Ligt revealed why he decided to leave Juventus.

"I really enjoyed my time at Juventus, but I felt that the time had come for a new challenge. Juve is a great team, but by coming here I made a step forward in my career, because Bayern have the ambition to win the Champions League. I didn't have that feeling at Juventus. Bayern's philosophy is similar to the one we have in the national team," said the 23-year-old Dutchman.

Many considered De Ligt's decision to change clubs in the year of the World Cup as risky, because there is a possibility that he will lose his place in the national team if he does not manage in the new environment. Still, Matthijs is happy with how things are going at the moment.

"Sometimes you have to take risks. I'm not worried at all. I barely played in the first three games because I came to the club late. That's all they told me in the first week. I've started six of the last eight games, so I'm happy with the opportunity I got and the way the first two months went."

De Ligt revealed that he could have worn the jersey of the current German champion much earlier.

"It didn't happen then, I think Bayern bought Lucas Hernandez that summer. I always thought this was a good club," De Licht said.
