Bayern Munich's centre-back Matthijs De Ligt, 24, would be a massive reinforcement for the North Londoners

Arsenal is interested in signing Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, several German media report on Thursday.

The 24-year-old Dutch centre-back has struggled to find form with the Bavarians this season, having made just 11 appearances in all competitions so far.

He is just 17 months into his five-year contract with the Bundesliga champions and cost the club £60m, meaning that a deal may be difficult to negotiate in January.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta apparently sees De Ligt as a long-term target, and Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the defender to potentially bring him to the club.

A loan deal with a buyout clause could be preferable for both De Ligt and Arsenal, but Bayern may be willing to keep him until the end of the season at least.
