De Bruyne-driven City storm over clueless United to prove who's the boss in town

Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 06.03.22. | 21:27

Belgium forward scored a brace to provide his team with a much-deserved victory against Ralf Rangnick's outfit (4-1)

A cat and the mouse game, once again!

And of course, no need to tell you who was who, as Pep Guardiola's mean machine grabbed another win against their neighbours, 4-1.

It could have and maybe should have been even more, but David de Gea saved the visitors from an embarrassing defeat.

The hosts were furious from the starting grid as De Bruyne netted just five minutes into the game. Foden and Grealish exchanged passes on the left flank before the latter launched a perfectly timed assist for De Bruyne, who was storming down the area to nail it for 1-0.

That very first dangerous moment - which resulted in a ball in the back of their net - demonstrated how rubbish the United's defence really is.

Thankfully for them, the offensive line was much better, levelling the game some 15 minutes later. It was a lovely, simple yet powerful counter-attack, perfectly exploiting space and depth. Pogba's first-touch pass found an unmarked Sancho on the opposite wing, and the Three Lions forward dribbled smoothly before placing it into the far corner.

For a moment, or two, it seemed like the game would stay in the stalemate for a bit longer, but De Bruyne was having none of it. And there was no one in the Red Devils' back four to prevent him from it.

Foden made a fool of today deplorable Lindelof and fired, but De Gea denied it. However, the ball stayed in the six-yard box, putting the Spanish keeper under the severe barrage that ended in another ball in his net, 2-1.

Without Cristiano Ronaldo - who was missing from the team for unknown reasons - the visiting team simply couldn't bounce back. Rashford is far from his earlier levels, with youngster Elanga failing to repeat some of his previous excellent displays.

On the other end, magnificent De Bruyne poured in some more class to his outstanding performance with a beautiful assist to Mahrez for 3-1. It was a corner-kick from the left, and the Belgium playmaker found Mahrez on the opposite end. His shot was good but would probably not harm De Gea if it wasn't for Maguire, whose attempt of blocking the strike went terribly wrong.

The game was wrapped in within 68 minutes, and the rest looked more like a playground for the dominant team. Joao Cancelo fired a jaw-dropping volley, but De Gea reacted superbly to save the Red Devils from further humiliation. At least, at that moment.

Mahrez stepped up again in the injury time to seal this wonderful victory for the Citizens, 4-1.
