Days of Thauvin's life: Comeback, goal, and award
Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 12.10.25. | 17:18
Lens forward, Florian Thauvin, returned to the France national team after six years, scored in his "comeback game," and was named Ligue 1 Player of the Month - all in the past ten days
Considered one of the most extraordinary talents in French football in the previous decade, Florian Thauvin never met high expectations. He did win the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France, but except for his respectable spells with Olympique Marseille, the general impression was that he fell short.
A two-year stint at Newcastle didn't help him make a breakthrough in the Premier League, while most people even forgot about him when he left L'OM in 2021. Afterwards, he spent two years at the Mexican Tigres UANL and two more at Udinese, but was far from the French public and national team manager's radar.
And then, all of a sudden, everything started going his way in the past few weeks. First, Didier Deschamps stunned the entire France and the player himself, including him in France's squad for the October World Cup qualifying clashes - Thauvin's first national team call-up after six years or 2,309 days, to be precise!
Before tonight, Florian Thauvin's last call up for France came over 6 years ago.

Two days ago, against Azerbaijan, the 32-year-old replaced the injured Kylian Mbappe in the 83rd minute and scored his team's third goal just a minute later with his first touch of the ball, marking his comeback match in the best possible way! That was his second France goal, as he netted his maiden one against Andorra in November 2019!
Finally, Thauvin's magnificent comeback period was completed earlier today, as he was named Ligue 1 September Player of the Month - for the first time since 2018!

In seven games with Lens during the previous month, the forward scored two goals in triumphs over Brest and Lille, which was enough to beat the competition embodied in Brest's Romain Del Castillo and Vitinha of Paris Saint-Germain and win the renowned accolade for the fourth time in his career.
Perhaps there is currently more important news in football, but these days belong to Florian Thauvin, who put himself back on the football map. Hopefully, he'll make sure the fans never forget about him again.
