One of the greatest ever footballers took to social media to show how much he'll miss his Portugal teammate. One of the greatest basketball players ever then did the same

The sadness is unparalleled, around the globe due to the death of Liverpool and Portugal winger Diogo Jota.

The 28-year-old Portuguese died in a car crash in Spain on Thursday morning, alongside his younger brother Andre Silva, 26. The shocking news of his tragic passing spread promptly around the world, and caused reactions from various players, clubs and organisations worldwide.

Among the others, Cristiano Ronaldo took to social media to say his farewell to Jota, his Portugal teammate for years.

In an emotional post, CR7 wrote:

"It doesn't make sense. We were just together in the national team, and you had just gotten married. To your family, your wife and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. Rest in peace, Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you."

Jota's team, Liverpool Football Club, said they are devastated by his death.

"The club have been informed that the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.

"Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss," the club announced and added they would continue to provide them with their full support.

Reacting to this news, legendary NBA league star LeBron James, qouted Liverpool's post on X, and said:

"My prayers goes out to his loved ones during this time! May you all be guided and protected! YNWA JOTA!!"
