FC Utrecht are keen on signing him for free with his contract with Duhail set to elapse.
Dutch league side FC Utrecht are reportedly keen on signing Kenyan striker Michael Olunga from Al Duhail of the Qatari All Stars League.
Olunga’s contract with Duhail expires at the end of the month, and he has already been linked with Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. There were also some odd links with the Brazilian side, Corinthians.
According to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, the Eredivisie club are keen on signing the 29-year-old on the Bosman and are currently engaging his entourage. The Dutch club finished in the seventh place with 54 points in the just-concluded 2022–23 season.
"FC Utrecht is in talks to transfer 29-year-old Kenyan striker Michael Olunga," the journalist tweeted on Tuesday morning.
It may, however, be hard for Duhail to let go of their starman. He once again emerged as the top scorer in the Qatari League last season, scoring 22 goals in 22 league matches. He scored 33 goals in 29 games across all competitions last season as his team went on to bag the league title.
Olunga, who is expected to link up next week with the national team Harambee Stars for the four-team tournament in Mauritius, started his career at Tusker FC in 2023 before moving to the now-defunct Thika United a year later. His breakthrough came when he signed for Gor Mahia for the 2015 season, when he became one of the most sought-after players in the East African region.
The following year, he joined Djurgasdens in the Swedish top-tier league. He lasted at the club for a season before moving to China, signing for Guizhou Zhicheng, which later loaned him out to Girona in the Spanish Laliga. Between 2018 and 2021, he played for Kashiwa Reysol in Japan and crossed over to Qatar in 2021, signing a two-year deal.
