Jonathan Bolingi, who's plying trade at FC Vojvodina in Serbia, is hospitalised for an unknown disease

Congolese striker Jonathan Bolingi has been urgently hospitalised after falling into critical condition following his return from international duties.

The 29-year-old player was admitted to the Clinical Center in Novi Sad, Serbia, on Thursday. Bolingi, who recently joined Novi Sad-based FC Vojvodina, is currently held at the intensive care unit, and the tests will show what disease or illness caused his condition.

"His current condition is severe and difficult. We are all satisfied that a team of experienced is monitoring him, well-trained specialists," Vojvodina's doctor Borko Vukosav explained at a press conference on Friday and added:

"We sincerely hope that Bollingi will overcome this difficult situation. We still don't know the causes. All the tests that have been done so far are negative. We are also monitoring the epidemiological situation in Kinshasa. Our doctors are in contact with their colleagues from the Congolese national team. He's receiving treatment and therapy, and we are waiting for further developments," concluded he.

Bolingi signed a two-year deal with Vojvodina in July after spending the previous season at the Thai side Buriram United. Quite a journeyman, the Congolese forward also plied trades in Belgium, Turkey and Switzerland.

He has made 34 appearances for the national side, scoring nine goals.
