Conceicao's chance to extend the story in Milan?

Milan is facing Lecce in the match that can determine the destiny of Portuguese coach

Tonight's match between Milan and Lecce could be the last for Sergio Conceicao as the Rossoneri head coach. Mauro Tassotti is ready to take over until the end of the season, while Massimiliano Allegri is expected to return to Milanello after 11 years this summer.

Conceicao refuses to accept reality, insisting that while Simone Inzaghi can win the treble, he himself can still claim a domestic double. While theoretically true, the Coppa Italia would not be enough to make up for Milan's disastrous campaign in Serie A and the Champions League.

With an average of just 1.40 points per game, Conceicao's record is even worse than Paulo Fonseca’s, which is why Milan are seriously considering parting ways with the Portuguese manager tonight or tomorrow if he fails to win against Lecce. The last Milan coach with an average below 1.50 points per game was Marco Giampaolo, who is now in charge of Lecce.

Both Lecce and Milan are in a deep slump. Giampaolo’s side has taken just one point in the last three rounds, while Milan has none.

Lecce’s main issue has been scoring goals, failing to find the net since January 31st in a 3-1 win over Parma. At home, their last goal was scored against Lazio last year.

Historically, Milan has dominated Lecce, with 22 wins and 13 draws, losing only twice in Serie A. Lecce’s only home win against the Rossoneri came 19 years ago.

Conceicao is set to shake up the starting lineup, benching Leao, Santiago Gimenez, Joao Felix, and Fofana. In total, six changes are expected compared to the team that started against Lazio last week.

The Portuguese coach is betting on players he considers to be his "soldiers", those who are in better physical condition.

Giampaolo has his entire squad available except for Marcin Marchwinski, while Milan will be without Pavlovic and Maignan (both suspended) as well as the injured Emerson Royal and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
