Sheldon Munoko has ditched UoE Trojans for P61 Rugby Academy

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship side University of Eldoret (UoE) Trojans have suffered a major blow after their now-former coach Sheldon Munoko announced a move to P61 Rugby Academy.

In an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport, the former KCB Rugby star said that he was looking to capitalize on his new role to nurture as many rugby talents as possible in Eldoret and beyond.

P61 Rugby Team is a youth team in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county that seeks to empower and nourish young talents in the region and beyond.

"It is a great feeling I thank God for the new opportunity. Challenges are there but we thank God because they make us better, but so far so good," he noted.

Munoko led the Trojans during the 2023 National 7s Circuit to see them top the Division II category after six legs. The Trojans kicked off their circuit with a second place in Dala 7s before a similar position during Driftwood 7s. They dropped to third place during Prinsloo 7s before bouncing back to first position in Christie 7s. They played at division I during Tisap 7s.

He will be looking to lead P61 Rugby Academy to achieve greater heights. The academy which comprises of age grade, women, and club rugby will be looking to impress when the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Nationwide league begins later in the month. Munoko is eager to guide them against the odds to climb to the top-tier league.

"Expect a wonderful season from young talents from all over Eldoret. P61 is all about Empowering the youth and releasing them to society when they are better. Our ultimate goal is to play in the Kenya Cup. We train at the Eldoret Polytechnic where we have age grade, women, and club rugby as well playing nationwide this season," he explained.

Prior to his coaching role, Munoko turned out for 10-time Impala Floodlights winners KCB Rugby where they won several Kenya Cup, Impala Floodlights, Mwamba Cup, and the ESS titles. He was also a hard-running backrower for the varsity side of the University of Nairobi Mean Machine when they won the Impala Floodlights varsity league, KRU Championship league, and the varsity league accolades.
