Classy Enrique: ‘We didn’t deserve to win’

Paris Saint Germain were on the ropes until the 85th minute. New looking Tottenham under Thomas Frank played much better and not only led 2-0 but had other good chances while the Parisian had their first shot on target in the 65th minute. But all that changed in just 10 minutes and Luis Enrique reserves not only scored two goals in that short period, but were also more concentrated during the penalty shootout and lifted the Super Cup trophy. The fact that they did it with only six days of training and without any pre-season friendly games is even more stunning. On the other side, Tottenham did the full pre season routine with a trip to Asia and no less than six friendly matches.

But coach Luis Enrique was quite honest after the game.

"To be honest, we don't deserve this trophy. We could see the difference between a team like Tottenham who had six weeks of training and us with only six days. It's such a difference. I'm happy with the result but it wasn't very fair. We tried to play football, but we made some bad passes. We were lucky to score two goals and go to penalties. Football is like that, and for us it was a great moment. It was a very strange match. It's normal to have this difference. We could see that our players made a lot of technical errors" said the Spaniard.

The biggest story in the PSG camp was certainly the situation with Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian keeper, who helped his team so much in their quest for the Champions League trophy is now out of the team and is waiting a transfer away from Paris. Lucas Chevalier came from Lille and went straight into the line up. He had some great saves, including one penalty at the end. "I'm very happy with the way he finished the match. It's important for him. He showed character and personality. These are the things we demand to help the team" said Enrique.
