Njunge managed 11 clean sheets last season but has found playtime hard to come by this season

Nairobi City Stars custodian Stephen Njunge has issued a rallying call to his teammates to ensure that they kill games early enough as they continue with their stellar season into the second leg.

In the current campaign, Njunge has fallen down the pecking order with Jacob Osano being the preferred first choice goalkeeper so far but that has not put him away from psyching up his teammates.

The former Wazito FC goalkeeper believes that Simba wa Nairobi has had a much more improved display this season, and is upbeat that they are within sight of the title.

“Compared to last season we’ve had a much improved season. I’d say that so far it’s been a good season. Even then we need to learn to finish off our games early. I ask for improved concentration as that will improve our results further and give us a better chance to gun for the title,” Njunge told the club's media.

After 18 rounds of matches and with 16 more to play, Nicholas Muyoti's side are second on the log with 32-points, five away from league leaders Kakamega Homeboyz.

City Stars have an impressive defensive record this season, having not conceded in eight of the 18 matches that they have played and only conceding 16 goals so far in the campaign. Only Tusker, Gor Mahia, Bandari, Ulinzi Stars, KCB, Sofapaka, and Kariobangi Sharks have conceded less.

The towering Njunge had a superb outing last season, being the only City Stars player to play in all the matches for the campaign and managing 11 clean sheets in the process to finish second in the golden boot race.
