The Nigerian is in terrific form, scoring 14 goals in 14 matches so far

Manchester City is the current leader of the Premier League and a semi-finalist of the Champions League, and they did it basically without a proper striker. Sergio Aguero has been injured for most of the season and is leaving at the end of the season, while Gabriel Jesus is definitely not the long time answer. So, Pep Guardiola usually plays with a false nine, and keeps saying that with these kind of prices, City probably won’t buy a striker.

But he actually had one in the club, and sold him for 3.751.932.639 KSh in 2017. And his name is Kelechi Iheanacho. The Nigerian is on fire, as he scored 14 goals in the last 14 games, but for Leicester. The powerful striker never got a real chance with the Citizens and scored 21 goals in 64 game for Manchester, mainly as a substitute.

When Pep sold him to the Foxes, the club made a clause in his contract that they could buy him out for a double sum (around 7.500.000.000 KSh). After such a good goalscoring run, there were rumors that The Citizens will activate the clause, but the truth in different – the clause expired last year. Fans were already fired-up when they found out about the clause, not knowing that is actually gone, and that the Nigerian signed a new, three-year contract.

And the happiest man of all is Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers. Iheanacho needed some time to adjust (37 goals in 122 games), but he is in full swing, and who knows for how long.

We knew the quality he has, the talent he has, and now he’s getting an opportunity. We were playing a system that only allowed him to come into games, but we’ve now designed the team around the injuries, with a bit of common sense, we’ve put in attacking players. He’s been incredible, that’s 14 goals in 14 games now and all different types of finishes. The team are delighted for him” said Rodgers.
