But the Magpies are trying to tie their full back with a new contract

During the current transfer window, Manchester City has already spent nearly 150 million euros. If we consider the full calendar year of 2025, the Citizens' bill is approaching a crazy 400,000,000 sum and don’t be surprised if it jumps to half a billion! The Manchester giant has patched up many weak positions, investing both in the present and the future, but according to the British Times, they are now ready to drop another 75,000,000 on a right-back.

They effortlessly took Tijjani Reijnders from Milan, Rayan Cherki from Lyon, and Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolverhampton, but it will be incomparably harder with Newcastle and Tino Livramento. City has secured a bag of money for the Englishman whom the Magpies paid Southampton 37 million two years ago (potentially rising to 46 million with bonuses), but the black-and-white club isn’t too keen to sell. After qualifying for the Champions League again, Newcastle is building a squad for great things under Eddie Howe, and their defensive strategy regarding Livramento is a new contract. Even though the 22-year-old—who has one cap for England—has a contract valid until 2028, Newcastle wants to extend and improve it, making the Chelsea academy product one of the highest-paid players at St. James’ Park.

City has simply seen immense quality and potential in the player whose natural position is right-back, but who, after displacing Kieran Trippier last season, had to switch to the left side due to Lewis Hall’s injury. That didn’t stop him from becoming one of the most effective full-backs in the Premier League, especially defensively. One of his best performances came in the Carabao Cup final, where he made life miserable for Mohamed Salah. Guardiola currently has only Rico Lewis at right-back, who has often been used as a central midfielder, so signing Livramento would tick off the right flank as well, and City would be fully equipped to start the new season. Of course, this depends on solving the goalkeeper issue they've been working on in recent days. The goal is to bring back James Trafford, who was sold to Burnley two years ago for 17 million. The current problem is the buyback clause, which is set at just under 50 million.
