Kevin Okumu has revealed that the target is to finish in the top five positions
Nairobi City Stars defender Kevin ‘Chumsy’ Okumu believes the team’s blend of young and experienced players will help the Kawangware based side hit its target of a top-five finish this season.
City Stars returned to the top tier this season after four years in the second tier. They have been inconsistent in the league so far and currently sit in 11th position with 17 points after 15 rounds of league matches.
They are nine points off fifth place Bandari but Okumu believes they have the right manpower to drive them past teams above them in the FKF Premier League table.
“At the moment we have a good team and we have targets that we must achieve this season. As a team, the goal is to finish in the top five positions. It is a target we can achieve because we have talented players and a good balance between young and experienced players,” he told Mozzart Sport.
On how he kept fit in the one month that football was suspended in the country, Okumu disclosed that roadwork and hitting the gym kept him in shape.
“I was training on my own every day. I would go for a run early in the morning then hit the gym in the afternoon. As an athlete, the responsibility of ensuring that you remain in shape rests with you. It can be challenging but with discipline it’s achievable,” he added.

City Stars took on Posta Rangers in two friendly matches that ended in a barren draw and 1-1 respectively and the youngster was impressed with how they played against Stanley Okumbi coached Mail-men.
“We played Posta Rangers on Friday and I think we looked sharp for a team that has not trained together for over a month. We can only get better with more training sessions and matches,” the speedy right-back concluded.
City Stars’ first assignment after resumption will be away to Gor Mahia.
