Cholo Simeone losing to Rayo? Not in a decade
Reading Time: 2min | Mon. 28.08.23. | 12:04
Two Madrid-based slots meet on Monday night, with no dilemma who are favourites to win this one
It has been more than ten years since the last Rayo Vallecano victory over Atletico Madrid. Los Colchoneros have gone on a 13-game-long streak without a defeat against the suburban side.
Rayo's ultimate win against Cholo Simeone's team dates back to February 2013, and the last time the two sides met at Vallecas, Atletico won 2-1.
Simeone's boys are on a decent course with four points to their account after two rounds. An eventual away victory against Rayo Vallecano tonight, in the last fixture of La Liga matchday 3, would mean a lot to them. It would show that red and whites can stay close to the top and fight for the title, the first one since 2021.
On the other end, Rayo recorded two wins in the opening two rounds, not conceding a single goal yet. However, it probably won't stay that way after they face the attacking axis Griezmann-Depay, with Morata waiting on the bench to shake things up a bit if the game unfolds in a way Simeone and Atletico don't prefer.
