Chelsea's 'keeper madness' continues - €70 million for a custodian?!

Reading Time: 2min | Mon. 03.02.25. | 13:51

Despite having a number of options in goal, the Blues are allegedly keen on bringing Borussia Dortmund's goalie, Gregor Kobel, for a vast amount of money

Kepa Arrizabalaga's record move from Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea for €80 million will remain at the top for some time, but the Blues obviously decided to get as close as possible to the record amount, as they are reportedly willing to sign Borussia Dortmund's custodian, Gregor Kobel, and splash out €70 million for his transfer?!

Even though they signed five goalkeepers in the last two and a half years (Gabriel Slonina, Djordje Petrovic, Robert Sanchez, Mike Penders, and Filip Jorgensen) - the aforementioned Kepa would make six in total - it's apparently not enough, as Bild claims the London side is very serious in their attempts to add the #7.

Dortmund extended the deal with the Swiss last year, and the BVB had no intention of selling him, but if Chelsea indeed offered €70 million, it would be hard to say no. Although it's more realistic for the deal to come through in June, the Bundesliga side has already reacted, signing the 23-year-old keeper from the Dutch Ajax - Diant Ramaj.

Therefore, today or in June, Chelsea (which face West Ham tonight at 11 pm) will almost certainly have a new custodian. It only remains to be seen whether they'll get rid of some of the ones that are already there...
