Chelsea have five strikers on their wish list

Reading Time: 3min | Fri. 12.01.24. | 13:59

Priority is to bring someone in January and if not, definitely in June 2024

Since the American businessman Todd Boehly came to Chelsea, the club has spent over one billion euros on player purchases in a year and a half. And the results are getting worse and worse. But that will not stop the American from continuing to spend, and Chelsea's priority in the football market is to bring in a centre-forward. Although they spent huge money on reinforcements in the previous three transfer windows, the Blues still do not have a classic striker, a proper number 9. There are only recent signing Nicholas Jackson and academy product Armando Broja in the club, and evidently, it’s not enough. The idea is to buy now, in January, and in the worst case, in June. A list of candidates to strengthen the attack of the two-time European champion has been drawn up, with priorities and the backups.

Chelsea's first pick is Victor Osimhen. Although the Nigerian recently signed a new contract with Napoli until 2026 worth as much as 10,000,000 euros per season, he also included a buyout clause of 120,000,000 euros. Considering how much Chelsea have been paying since Boehly arrived, that's not an exorbitant price and it wouldn't be surprising if the London club paid Napoli that price. Osimhen has stated many times before that the Premier League is his goal and this could be an ideal opportunity. Admittedly, much more likely in June than now, because the Nigerian is participating with his national team at AFCON.

A similar story applies to his countryman Victor Boniface from Leverkusen. He was supposed to play in the African Championship but he got injured and will be out until April, which rules out a January transfer. However, Chelsea could already prepare the ground for June if they decide on Boniface. A more realistic option for June is Dušan Vlahović, who is currently fighting for the double crown with Juventus. A mid-season sale would significantly jeopardize the Old Lady's trophy chances. However, the club's management has long underlined that there is no player who is not for sale and that all good offers will be considered. Chelsea was also interested in the Serbian last July, Juve was in the mood for a trade, if the Blues offered Lukaku plus money, and that's where it ended.

Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres has been shining since he moved from Coventry to Sporting Lisbon this September. He scored 20 goals and registered 10 assists in 23 matches. Sporting would not give him up so easily unless someone pays the buyout clause. And it amounts to exactly 100,000,000 euros. Affordable for Chelsea. Irish child prodigy Evan Ferguson from Brighton has the same price tag. Although he signed a new contract with the Seagulls in November, director Paul Barber emphasized that a sale was not ruled out in case of a good offer. FergusonJackson and Broja right now, that's not realistic.
