City will have to wait so more for the biggest European club trophy as they were not dangerous enough in Porto. Final score 0-1 with the first Champions League goal of Kai Havertz.

In the 66th final of Europe’s premier club competition in which two English powerhouses met, the ones from the England's capital came out victorious.

With this title, Chelsea are the only team that has two Champions Leagues, two Europa Leagues and two Cup Winner's Cup trophies. London Blues now have six out of seven major European trophies (the only trophy missing is the European Super Cup).

The showpiece started with high intensity as both teams waited for the opponent to make a mistake, but not in a boring way.

Man City held the ball more and were always on the verge of powering through Chelsea's box. Chelsea defended in an organized manner in the opening minutes of the game and were eager to threaten Ederson and City's backline with counter attacks.

As many times these season, Timo Werner had a couple of chances he failed to convert. In his first he missed the ball with his left foot in a promising opportunity; in the second, which was massive, the ball went under him and he sent a weak shot into Ederson's gloves; third shot ended on the outer side netting.

After German's second chance, City could have punished the Londoners for not scoring but Sterling's pass inside the box did not end up on the foot of Riyad Mahrez who could have easily placed it behind Edouard Mendy.

Even though City did not have many chances, Sky Blues of Manchester were constantly pressing the Stamford Bridge crew, both offensively and defensively.

Just before the half hour mark, in the 28th minute, Antonio Rudiger made the best block of the game thus far. Phil Foden tried with the outside of his foot but the German defender made a perfectly timed tackle to stop the young Englishman.

That period of the match belonged to Guardiola's team. Few chances in a row for Mahrez and Sterling, however the score did not change.

A massive hit for Chelsea's defensive presence happened in the 38th minute as Thiago Silva had to leave the pitch due to injury. Andreas Christensen took his place in the middle of Chelsea's backline.

London Blues consolidated and took the ball away from City. Throughout the first half Chelsea did defend more but also had more chances to score.

The Champions of the competition in 2012 finally took the lead in the 44th minute. Chelsea's main man Mason Mount sent a penetrating 40-meter pass to find Kai Havertz who faced Ederson 1v1 and came out victorious from that duel.

Havertz (21y 352d) is now the youngest German player to score in a Champions League final since Borussia Dortmund's Lars Ricken in 1997 (20y 322d v Juventus).

Guardiola had to push his players to make that extra step in order to get back in the game so the second half started with City being more aggressive.

However, much had to change with the Citizens approach to the rest of the game since from the 59th minute, Pep's team had to continue without their captain Kevin De Bruyne.

A head-to-head collision between the Belgian and Rudiger caused for De Bruyne to leave the pitch wobbling.

City pressed Chelsea constantly but those attacks were not chances that could be considered too dangerous.

Some changes in both line-ups after the 65th minute brought in fresh legs to feel that grass of Dragao - Fernandinho replaced Bernardo Silva in Guardiola's ranks while Christian Pulisic substituted Werner.

Minutes after - first half Rudiger block COPY - second half Cezar Azpilicueta block PASTE. City had a beautiful build up and got frighteningly close to Chelsea's goal but Blues' captain was at the right place at the right time to deny Man City from scoring.

And out of all that offensive pressure of Guardiola's men - out came an incredible opportunity for Chelsea's American Pulisic in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately for the Londoners, he was not as accurate as Havertz was and failed to send the ball behind Ederson. Thomas Tuchel could not comprehend this was not a 2-0 lead for his team.

In the following attack City were again close and managed to send the ball close to Mendy from the flank but Ben Chilwell was there to clear it out.

A little bit over 10 minutes were left to play but City were not as intense as everyone expected. Yes, they did constantly look for channels to get the forgotten Gabriel Jesus into play or to employ experienced Sergio Kun Aguero but at that point Citizens had to give it more if they wanted to at least level the score.

Few inaccurate shots from Chelsea, courtesy of Pulisic and Jorginho, gave the impression they wanted to score their second but the focus was on retaining the existing lead.

Fatigue was obvious on both sides, even the tireless N'Golo Kante seemed out of steam in the closing minutes of the match.

Seconds before the 90th minute started, Manchester City had a huge opportunity from a pinball inside Chelsea's box however Christensen was were he was supposed to be to kick the ball far away.

Last ten minutes of the match were a stage for the incredible French dynamo as Kante snatched several important possessions for his team.

As the final 60 seconds of the match started counting, Algerian Mahrez sent a beautiful shot towards Mendy's upper left corner - the ball went centimeters wide from the post.

With the final whistle of Spanish referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz tears of joy and tears of sadness flooded the pitch and the stands.

After Valencia, Chelsea, Bayer Leverkusen, Monaco, Arsenal, Tottenham and PSG - Manchester City are eight debutants in the UCL finals that lost the game.

Thomas Tuchel, the only manager leading two different teams in two consecutive Champions League finals, completely defeated his Spanish counterpart - City were pretty much futile throughout the match. There were some chances made by the Premier League champions but Guardiola had to face the fact this is the first final he lost while managing Man City.

Alongside incredible Kante, Mount, James, Azpilicueta - the whole Chelsea team - it needs to be mentioned that Edouard Mendy played his role perfectly. He is the first African goalkeeper with the Champions League medal - the Senegalese had 9 clean sheets during this European campaign. In his debut season in the competition!

At the beginning of the Champions League season - who would have thought Chelsea would be the ones lifting the 'Old Big Ears' trophy?
