After the game, Mauritania’s players practically rushed to collect the shirts of the Argentine footballers, but for the holy grail of football, a real battle had to be fought — Lionel Messi’s shirt.

A full line formed outside the world champions’ dressing room, players waited, and then, when the shirt somehow ended up in the hands of the Mauritanian players, chaos broke out. They fought over it, and it nearly escalated into a physical clash between teammates. All of this shows just how much Lionel Messi means to the entire football world.

Just a few months earlier, a similar kind of chaos occurred in India when Messi visited the country. Unhappy with the amount of time he spent on the pitch, fans began to vandalize the stadium, throwing pyrotechnics and breaking seats. Still, compared to that, this situation in Mauritania seems almost harmless — yet it perfectly illustrates the incredible aura carried by one of the greatest footballers of all time.
