
CHAN2024: Millions each Harambee Stars player has earned so far after quarters qualification

The Kenya national men's football team, Harambee Stars, continue to bank financial rewards in millions following their exemplary performance in the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

After sealing qualification to the quarter finals, Harambee Stars players have now earned about Ksh5 million in financial rewards since the tournament began.
The most eye-catching of the rewards is the Ksh1 million promise by President William Ruto to each player for every win registered and Ksh500,000 for every draw secured.
Additionally, the team was promised Ksh600 million should they win the tournament, Ksh70 million if they are among the last four teams and Ksh60 million for reaching the quarter finals.
Of the three matches that Harambee Stars have so far played, they have won two and drawn one, bringing their total individual cash reward to Ksh2.5 million; a million for each win and Ksh 500,000 for the draw.
Additionally, the team has also earned Ksh60 million for qualifying for the quarter finals. Kenya has 25 registered players for the tournament and an additional two players, Brian Musa and Swaleh Pemba, retained in the team after they were ruled out before the tournament kicked off.
Should the money be distributed to all 27, each of them will receive about Ksh2.2 million for their troubles.
In the week leading to the opening match against DR Congo, Bunge FC- the parliamentary soccer team visited the team and handed them a Ksh1 million financial boon, translating to Ksh37,000 for every player.
Additionally, President Ruto had handed the team Ksh5 million in his first visit on Wednesday, 16 July, which could earn each of the almost 30 players in the squad then Ksh186,000.
Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Salim Mvurya donated Ksh500,000 to the team on their first day in camp, while FKF President Hussein Mohammed also gave a Ksh200,000 donation, although there were more players on the first day as compared to now.
In the end, every member of the CHAN squad has earned at least Ksh4.7 million from the government and over Ksh200,000 from the President and other well-wishers.
