Odhiambo, who scored the decisive goal in Kenya’s 1-0 victory over DR Congo in the tournament opener at a packed Kasarani Stadium, believes the support of the fans and sharper game execution will be key to securing another positive result.
“As a team, we need to scoop motivation from energy from our fans bring, create chances, and score goals. We must use home confort to our advantage in the remaining fixtures,” said the Gor Mahia midfielder, who made his senior national team debut last year.
The 26-year-old, who previously turned out for AFC Leopards, admits the upcoming game against Angola will be tougher, especially after watching the Palancas Negras lose 2-0 to Morocco, who currently top Group A on goal difference.
“We have to pull up our socks and work twice as hard to beat Angola. We are already focusing on areas that need improvement, especially game management, ball possession, and control, which we struggled with at times on Sunday,” Odhiambo told The Standard.
Motivated by his goal against DR Congo, Odhiambo is determined to keep delivering for the team and dreams of a historic tournament for the hosts.
“I want to score again on Thursday. I want to score more goals in this tournament. I want to see this trophy stay at home,” he added confidently.
With Kenya eyeing a place in the knockout stages for the first time, Odhiambo urged the fans to maintain the momentum and turn out in large numbers once again.
“We desperately need the fans on Thursday and throughout the championship. Please arrive in your numbers; your energy drives us. Let us unite as Kenyans. Together as one, nothing can stop us," he added.
