Speaking to NTV following Kenya’s memorable 1-0 triumph over DR Congo, Otieno hailed the team’s mental strength and composure, underscoring the importance of a strong start in major tournaments.

"Sunday was an important day for Kenya and the players,” Otieno said. “Mentally, it was tough because they were playing in a big tournament like CHAN for the first time.

Starting well is everything in a competition like this, and I believe this result will carry the team all the way.”

The most capped Harambee Stars player with 105 appearances also praised the growing support from the public, adding that fan backing could be the key to unlocking the team’s full potential.

"Now they can focus on the next match knowing they’ve earned the trust of Kenyans. The expectations and energy from the fans will be a huge boost. That support, if sustained, can steer the team to success.”

Kenya kicked off their CHAN campaign on a high note following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the tournament's joint-record champions DR Congo on Sunday 3, August, at a fully packed Kasarani Stadium.

The lone goal of the match came courtesy of Austin Odhiambo, whose well-timed strike just before the halftime whistle secured Kenya's first-ever win in the tournament.

The result puts Kenya in a promising position in Group A, tied on three points with the tournament's joint-record champions Morocco, who lead the group on goal difference following their 2-0 win over Angola at Nyayo National Stadium on the same day.

Harambee Stars now turn their attention to their second fixture against Angola, scheduled for Thursday 7, August.

They will then face North African giants Morocco on Sunday, 10 August, before concluding their group stage journey with a crucial encounter against Zambia on Sunday, 17 August.
