The war in Ukraine resulted in Russians being stripped of hosting a spectacle

It was announced yesterday and today that announcement has been converted into an official statement - UEFA reacted quickly and took away the Champions League final from St. Petersburg and Russia.

UEFA Executive Committee quickly scheduled a session after the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out, and the European house of football did not wait long to decide to move the Champions League final to Paris. The host of the match will be Stade de France in Saint-Denis and the match will be played according to plan, on May 28.

UEFA thanked the President of France Emmanuel Macron and the government of that country for their support and for accepting the organization of the showpiece due to the unexpected change of plan.

By the way, the English media wrote for days that the final match of the Champions League could be played at Wembley, they cheered for London to be chosen, but yesterday information arrived that the plan was unrealistic due to one of the Championship playoff matches being played on the same day at that famous stadium.

An official statement from UEFA regarding the change of the host of the Champions League final says that Russian and Ukrainian clubs will have to play their European matches on neutral ground in the foreseeable future. Of the clubs from those countries, only Spartak Moscow remains in the Europa League.
