Wanyama was categorical, saying that his staying or leaving the club is not dependent on the Argentine coach
CF Montreal Sports Director Olivier Renard believes Victor Wanyama and coach Hernan Losada can still work together next season despite what appears to be a broken relationship between the duo.
The tense relationship between the pair came to the fore after the conclusion of the 2023 MLS campaign when, in an interview, Wanyama said he did not understand why he fell out of favour and was confined to the bench, and in an immediate response, the coach said he fielded players he believed were better than the former Kenyan international.
The Canadian media has been awash with reports that the duo, despite still having a year-long contract with CF Montreal, will not work together next season. Both have been linked with moves away, Wanyama in search of a fresh challenge and Losada due to what has been a disappointing season for the Saputo-based club.
Renard has now weighed into the matter, and the Frenchman believes that all is not lost as long as the pair keeps talking to one another.
“The most important thing is that people talk to each other,” he told Soccer Canada Daily.
He adds that he does not believe that either Wanyama or the coach will hold a grudge and that there is a likelihood that both will be at the club next season.
“Victor doesn't give me the impression of holding a grudge. Neither does the coach. It’s up to me in the middle to see the situation. But the option of having both back is a possibility.".
Asked whether he will be at the club next season if Losada stays, Wanyama was categorical, saying that his staying or leaving is not dependent on the Argentine coach.
“I have a contract with CF Montreal, but not with him,” he added.
