In the open letter to the music star, Marian Mourino asked the 67-year-old if she still had the club jersey she wore during her concert at Balaidos back in 1990

Over the years, there have been some unusual stories, but Celta Vigo reaching out to Madonna this Wednesday might be the most surprising yet.

The club's president, Marian Mourino, wrote an open letter to Madonna, asking for her help to find one of the team's jerseys she wore during a 1990 performance at the stadium.

The concert happened in July 1990 at Celta's Balaidos Stadium during her Blonde Ambition tour.

She wore the No. 5 jersey, which belonged to former player Juan Manuel Espinosa, who passed away in October 2025.

Celta has been searching for the jersey for years and has now decided to ask the public for help, inviting anyone with information to come forward.

Mourino tried to explain to Madonna why the shirt and that moment are so important to the club.

"This beloved memory still lives among our supporters," Mourino wrote. "The photograph of you (Madonna) wearing our shirt has become a myth and is now part of our history, which is written often beyond the limits of the football pitch.

"Many see this as a simple coincidence. I like to think that nothing happens by chance.

"Although ours was not the only football shirt you ever wore on stage, this iconic image has grown to shine differently as years have passed. Over time, we came to better understand what you stood for back then: questioning established norms and standing up to those who try to tell you what you can or cannot do.

"This search is an act of memory, a symbol of part of the emotional heritage of our club and what it stands for," she added.

Celta also plans to honor Madonna with a special gesture on Friday before their home game against Real Madrid.

Celta is currently sixth in La Liga, 11 points away from the top four and 24 points behind league leaders Barcelona.
