Kenyan girls need a win to stay in the competition after they lost their first match 4-2 to Commercial Bank of Ethiopia

Kenya’s Vihiga Queens will be seeking to get their CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers campaign up and running when they take on South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars in their second Group B match taking place at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Wednesday afternoon.

In their first match in the inaugural competition, Queens got off on a wrong footing when Medina Awol Busser ran riot in bagging a hat trick as Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) defeated them 4-2 on Sunday.

Unlike Queens, Yei Joint Stars FC began their Champions League qualification with a 2-1 win over Zanzibari's New Generation to go joint top of the group although with an inferior goal difference.

Heading into the match, Queens will be pleased with the fact that scoring is not a worry as they showed when they put two past Ethiopia’s CBE. The Charles Okere temporarily led side will however have to reorganize their defence that saw them concede four goals that consequently got them rooted to the bottom of the log.

Harambee Starlets forward Gentrix Shikangwa who leads the line at the 2019 Kenyan Women Premier League champions had earlier stated how she expects tough opposition once the tournament gets underway and how her desire is to help the team in the competition.

“We know everyone is well prepared and we are just going in there to take a match at a time. We expect it tough but we have done our part in the training. Personally, I am determined to help the team and my aim is to become the top scorer at this tournament,” she stated in an earlier interview with CAF media.

With the team needing a win to have any hopes of making it out of the group stages, the second match against Yei would be a good time for the striker to come to the team’s rescue because another defeat would get them bundled out of the tournament whose winner will grab the automatic qualification slot to the CAF Women Champions League to be played later this year in Egypt.

The match kicks off at 1600EAT.

In the early Group B kick-off match, Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank of Ethiopia will take on Zanzibar’s New Generation as the Ethiopians seek to maintain their position at the top of the log.

CBE are on top of the log on three points courtesy of a superior goal difference while New Generation are sat in third with no points after their opening defeat.

The match kicks off at 1300 EAT.
