Former Madrid forward recollected his time under Fabio Capello and Nutella sponsors
When a manager leaves you out of the squad, what do you do? Train harder, trying to get better in order to come back into the team? Correct! Unless you are Antonio Cassano. Then you will just eat Nutella all day.
Former Real Madrid forward, known for his football skills, but not his weight management, remembered one episode during his spell with the Royal club, where he spent his 2006/07 season after thriving in Roma.
"When I arrived at Real Madrid, I lost 12 kilos immediately. Then Fabio Cannavaro arrived and I put them back on. One of the sponsors at Real Madrid was Nutella, and every month they gave us five kilos. When Fabio Capello was in charge I scored two goals in two games and felt like I was the king of the world. He replaced me in the first half against Lyon and I fought with him, but he's a person I really love. He took me out of the team and I gained 14 kilos in seven months. I was eating Nutella straight out of the jar. By the spoonful” Cassano told on Bobo TV, a show launched by Christian Vieri last month on Twitch.
His spell with Real ended soon, and he was first loaned to Sampdoria, then the Genoveses signed him permanently. It was a risky transfer, since Genova was 90 minutes away from Piedmont, the cradle of the Nutella brand, but still, Cassano formed a powerful partnership with Giampaolo Pazzini, and the duo qualified for Champions League under manager Luigi Delneri, before playing for AC Milan, Inter, Parma and Hellas Verona. Cassano played 29 times for Real Madrid, scoring four goals.
